A Face In The Crowd
(17/11/09)
Welcome back.
First up this year is the new RX produced Saint Etienne single "Method Of Modern Love" also featuring the Richard X "Join Our Clique" Remix for your listening pleasure. It's a limited release and the band have setup with recordstore so you can preorder it, if you're in the UK. If not there's a special international edition coming soon. Check the link below...
EDIT: NOW AVAILABLE 09/02 on ITUNES WOOOOOO!....see below for link
The new label is called "Pleasure Masters" and will be releasing its first single, Annie's RX produced "Anthonio" in late Feb. It's been slightly delayed due to the implosion of the UK music business but we guess you'll hear it by Feb. Its 120 beats per minute, shiny and a bit fizzy, reminds us of holidays gone by, and features a dramatic key change towards the end. What more could you ask for (apart from an audio sample)?
We've been working with Steve Mason just before Xmas amongst others and we should be finishing Sophie Ellis Bextor's "Magic" track when we can get the drum machine working again...
Thanks to everyone who sent in their opinions on "what is a single" these days. We'll be testing you again soon.
EDIT: Sarah St Etienne may have given away a bit on Teletext the other day about the other St Et thing we're doing. We'll update you soon...

(12/09/09)
We're excited, nay thrilled to have the Richard X re-produced Saint Etienne album "Foxbase Beta" due for launch in October. It's a revisit/remake/remodel version of the Et's debut album, a Black Melody favourite. More info at the band's site, there's a commentary due to be available featuring Bob,Pete with RX having a chat. There's a 12" with the RX versions of Only Love Can Break Your Heart out just before, slightly extended from the album version. We'll try and put some more info up soon
Out v.soon is the RX remix of Dragonette's new single "Pick Up The Phone" for your listening pleasure. Lots of DX7 on it, synth fans...
Blasts from from the past corner.... On October 19th you should be able to finally get hold of the RX produced "Peg" by Nerina Pallot on the flip of her new single "Real Late Starter". It was made in early 07, so that's only 2 and a half years, should be enough promo time, yes? Hopefully the Geek Love remix will appear sometime. Check out Nerina's site for all the info...
Similarly delayed is Annie's RX produced "Songs Remind Me Of You" forthcoming on her "Don't Stop" LP finally out in October. It's out digitally already as a single if you're chomping at the bit.
And what's this? The RX produced Pet Shop Boys track from 2006 Fugitive is available in 7" edited form on the German release of their "Did You See Me Coming" single. We think it was discussed as being a single for 5 minutes at one point.
We're currently finishing off producing some of the new Steve Mason tracks this month which will probably appear on Black Melody early next year. Then it's a warm welcome to great new Warp Records signings The Hundred In The Hands for a look at a few tracks for their debut album.
Q+A
(18/08/09)
There are more questions than answers, so to redress the balance here's just some answers.
1. We think it's coming out in October now but she'll let you know when she's ready
2. "All Come Down" will be the first single.
2a. not that stevemason, that Steve Mason
3. We'd say it's along the lines of "Music For Dancing" and we've done three songs now, and Magic will be on there.
4. There's something about Sweden at the moment.
5. We liked "I Get Around" so we're looking forward to tackling one of the new ones.
6. She seemed nice and didn't mention Rachel at all, and of course we were honoured to be asked in the first place.
7. Birmingham's not just about UB40 you know.
8. One of our favourite records so that's why we did it and why it works. Pete said it was like returning home to find someone's broken in and repainted the whole place. Think of it as a companion piece.
9. No
10. Yes
EDIT: It looks like the long (very long) awaited Songs Remind Me Of You by Annie will be out in some form in August. More info when we get it...
EDIT: It's out on Itunes now...
Did You Ever Really Care?

Black Melody and an anonymous Brunei based Sultan have joined forces to start a new record label. The first release will be a brand spanking new ANNIE single called "Antonio". Check back here soon and we'll have thought up a name for it and we'll direct you to where you need to go.
Picking up from a discussion over at Popjustice.com , Black Melody would be interested to know what you think a "single" is in the modern world. Do you think it's when a piece of music is available as a download (free or paid for), a cd single, a 7"/12" - all or any of these? Does it have to be accompanied by a video or will a shot of a record label bunged up on youtube do? Does the very act of saying a track is a "single" mean it is? What else? Please share your thoughts on this important matter to the below email address, and please let us know how old you are, just cos we're nosey.

Early next year there will be the new Saint Etienne RX produced single "Method Of Modern Love" Lots more in 2008. bye for now x
Feel My Heartbeat
(02/10/08)
Well who would have thought...finally, Annie's Richard X produced version of Stacey Q's "Two Of Hearts" has appeared in the blogosphere. It's apparently free, there's a link below, which will delight pop fans and rapidshare enthusiasts the world over, but maybe not the Black Melody Towers accountant. We think there will be more information soon about Annie's album Don't Stop soon. Spread the love.
The Human League retrospective "The Golden Hour Of The Future" is available now at all good remaining record shops and digital providers. Richard X has helped compile the album which covers the era circa 1977, check out the link and listen to the sound of the future.

Attention
(06/08/08)
A quick message to the 60,775,238 people (approx) who haven't gone out and bought Annie's RX produced "I Know Ur (Your) Girlfriend Hates Me" this week - there's still a few copies in the shops. Hey, don't all rush at once. You can always download from your favourite online audio outlet of course - and no, we don't mean Rapidshare.
Its summer and we should be out in the countryside eating sandwiches and brushing flies off the coleslaw but we're still here looking at a Roland SH 101 wondering whether it would be a good idea to open it up or not. Its usually a not in these cases.
Ho Hum.
Elsewhere there's some new music going on. Out soon is the Neon Neon remix and Songs Remind Me Of You on Annie's Don't Stop Album. There's some news for Human League obsessives too soon.
bye x
EDIT:
For those with long memories you might remember we once put out an album in 2002 called "The Golden Hour Of The Future" by The Future and The Human League featuring lots of goodies from their 1977 cassette tapes. Well it is going to be available again in September and is remastered for 2008...wooo! Check the link below....

Hullo
(14/06/08)
Annie's "I Know UR Girlfriend Hates Me" produced by Richard X is out early July (UK). Check the video out, link below. The album "Don't Stop" is due out later in the month including RX produced "Songs Remind Me Of You" at long last. We're not quite sure where the "Two Of Hearts" cover will end up at the moment (the b-side doesnt really exist anymore does it?)
In the studio we've been fiddling with Daggers, Ebony Bones and Neon Neon.

More More (More)
(10/05/08)
Annie's "Girlfriend" is in the ether. We're no longer sure if it's "I Know Your Girlfriend Hates Me" or "Girlfriend", it was the former but maybe Island Records are economising on printer ink. Also the version floating around the web is the early version of the track which wasn't mixed but someone at the label thought would be a good idea to put out. I picture a world of children ripping open their presents on Christmas Eve, then crying on Christmas morn as they realise they've spoilt it for everyone. Well, something like that. The album is finished now so maybe there will be more soon.
There's been some additional fiddling on a couple of tracks for Sam Sparro's forthcoming long player on Island Records that may just be titled "Sam Sparro" again for economic reasons.
EDIT: Neon Neon's "I Told Her On Alderaan" is being prepared for re-launch.
This Is The News
(24/01/08)
Happy New Year and all that.
First up this year is a production for Saint Etienne, tweaking one of their more recent songs into a thing of pure beauty. Hopefully it will see the light of day in a few months along with some new/old Saint Etienne bits. I am campaigning for the re-release of the Icerink back catalogue although I might be the only one on this.
EDIT: The song is "This Is Tomorrow"
Ebony Bones is back again, she'll have more out in the near future. To those people who have been emailing in about records coming out, especially Annie and the Sophie Ellis Bextor things I have to say you know as much as i do. Why not go out and get some fresh air while you are waiting.
EDIT: ok, so people know now there's another RX production for Annie coming soon called "i Know Your Girlfriend Hates Me", more soon.
Lots of other things on the cards for the new year, we'll be in touch.
Oh and the address for demonstration cd's / promo's /gifts is Black Melody,
PO BOX 43683, LONDON, SE22 8ZD. We forgot to put it on the site in all the excitement.
Bye for now

We're Back
(05/12/07)
Well hello again strangers. Finally the Black Melody site is back up and running thanks to Graeme and co, he's linked at the bottom of the page so please visit him and give him your money. It's hard to believe that it's been almost 7 years since the first Richard X / Girls On Top release and i'm still employed. I'll have to have some sort of celebratory party or something. Can you make it? Good. Anyway, now you can click below on the track titles for more information and some clips (yes, actual music on the site!).
We've recently had Sophie Ellis Bextor pop in, a new track has been demoed with her potentially to appear next year but at the current rate of action in the record industry it'll probably be 2009. Annie tracks are now finished.... Honestly, something WILL come out soon (early next year we believe) so you can stop fretting. Ebony Bones appeared to conjure up some new demoes and hopefully there will be some news soon on that as well. Elsewhere, The Real Heat are/were giving away "Come We Go" an RX tweaked demo/track on their Myspace.
RX is on Myspace (address at the bottom) so why not join. I'm really interested to hear about your MACYs vouchers that turned up in the post. Also on Facebook but don't bother with that cos its going to be deleted soon.
So take care of yourselves and each other
